July 2020 winner Food for Thought

Charitocracy's 47th check to July winner Food for Thought for $1437

We have good news about July winner Food for Thought, right after this quick update...

250+ donors!

We reached the 100 donor milestone in Charitocracy's first month (September 2016), and the 200 donor milestone a year later during September 2017. Since then, our new donor rate has balanced our attrition rate freakishly closely, which has had us hovering +/- at 200 ever since. Almost like that's a magic number?

But thanks to the recruiting efforts of Sea Change OBX in February as well as our new July winner announced here today, our donor count has passed the 250 donor milestone!

250 donors is a real accomplishment, and truly inspires and fuels me to continue making Charitocracy bigger and better each month. This growth is almost entirely thanks to organic invitations to friends and family members! So... thanks! And keep 'em coming!

July 2020 winner Food for Thought

Last night we named Charitocracy's 47th monthly winner. Congratulations to Food for Thought, nominated by donor whitelin. They reduce hunger and academic risk facing elementary children in Dare County, NC by providing healthy meals to build strong minds. You can find their web page here. They managed to recruit well over a dozen new Charitocracy donors to vote for their cause. This is exactly how you do it: get out the vote!

Now you have a week to further sweeten the pot with a special one-time donation of any amount, which we'll add straight to the check we write to Food for Thought.

Before you go, check out this short Food for Thought video (starring the nominator!) reminding you of who they are and what they do. It was shot before the pandemic, in case it sets off your social distancing alarms. Remember when we could be that close to other humans without masks?? Then feel good about your part in our collective $1437+ grant to help with their ongoing work!

Have a great August, stay safe, and be sure to log into Charitocracy to update your votes or nominate a new cause!

February 2020 winner Sea Change OBX

Charitocracy's 42nd check to February winner Sea Change OBX for $1262

We have good news about February winner Sea Change OBX, right after this quick update...

This is how you Charitocracy!

In February we had the biggest influx of new donors at Charitocracy since the first few months of our existence. 38 new donors! And most of them joined thanks to the recruiting efforts of our new nominees, the lion's share coming from, you guessed it, the winning cause. In fact, other than hurricane relief winners, no cause has gone from new nominee to winner so quickly, and only Hurricane Harvey relief has attracted more votes.

So if you have a favorite cause and a squad of friends and family who you believe will support your effort, February's winner has proven it's doable. And the beauty is that if/when your cause wins, 11 other worthy causes also benefit from your Charitocracy fundraising. So without further ado...

February 2020 winner Sea Change OBX

Last night we named Charitocracy's 42nd monthly winner. Congratulations to Sea Change OBX, nominated by donor jennagwaltney. They work directly with the Outer Banks Latino community to promote education and encourage cross-cultural understanding. You can find their web page here.

Now you have a week to further sweeten the pot with a special one-time donation of any amount, which we'll add straight to the check we write to Sea Change Partnership. ❤️ Here's how they plan to spend it:

Your donation will go towards publishing a bilingual cookbook of original OBX Latino recipes. Each recipe will include a personal narrative and a photo from the country of origin. The proceeds will sustain our ongoing programs.

Before you go, check out this video (en español) from winner Sea Change OBX, welcoming members of the community to attend their free English classes. (Expecting fewer than 30 students, they accommodated over 50!) Then feel good about your part in our collective $1262+ grant to help with their work!

Have a great March and be sure to log into Charitocracy to update your votes or nominate a new cause!

April 2018 winner Outer Banks SPCA

Charitocracy's 20th check to April winner Outer Banks SPCA for $1103

We have good news about April winner Outer Banks SPCA, right after this quick update...

First, a general update

It's been smooth sailing this past month. Tons of paperwork completed for our nationwide registration. The pot size was up in April, even if just a bit, to cross $1100. You nominated some fantastic causes, the newest of which I'll be blogging about soon. And we're even on Instagram now!

Two things you can do today to help us at Charitocracy:

  1. Grow our donor base and monthly pot: sign yourself up or convince someone you love (or kinda like).
  2. Liven up the party: check out the activity on Charitocracy and make it less anonymous.

We'd love to get our May prize closer to $1200, and our active donors above 200!

April 2018 winner Outer Banks SPCA

Monday night we voted in Charitocracy's 20th monthly winner. Congratulations to Outer Banks SPCA and to donor bjstager for nominating it! You have a week to further sweeten the pot with a special one-time donation of any amount, which we'll add straight to the check we write to OBX SPCA next week. You can find their web site here.

Who we are and what we do....

The Outer Banks SPCA is an open-admission animal shelter dedicated to caring for all the lost and homeless animals of Dare County. As such, we take in approximately 2,000 dogs and cats each year. We never turn away a Dare County fur resident, whether they be sick, injured, aggressive or behavior challenged. We receive owner give ups, lost, stolen or stray, but we never turn away.

Outer Banks SPCA believes it is not the animal's fault for being at the shelter. We want every healthy, treatable and manageable animal to get a second chance at love. We're dedicated and determined to saving every life we can through responsible animal care practices. We strive to maintain good health and a sound temperament in all our animals. We practice humane education and employ proactive adoption programs to decrease our animals length of stay and optimize space.

Check out this video about Outer Banks SPCA's new sidekick program, pairing experienced volunteers with hard to place dogs, and feel good about your part in our collective $1103+ grant to help with their work!

Have a great May and log into Charitocracy to update your votes or nominate a new cause!
