We provide local education to Corolla, instilling social & environmental responsibility while nurturing body & mind.

The Corolla Education Foundation supports the Water’s Edge Village School (WEVS);  a geographically-based, public Charter school in Corolla, NC.  Founded in 2012 using a one-room school house built in the  1890’s, WEVS has grown from an initial 12 students to 44 but, frustratingly, has 28 children on a waiting list.  The waiting list is caused by a lack of adequate space in the village.  The 28 students on the waiting list face a 2.5 hour bus ride to get to other public schools.

WEVS has brought a new vitality and sense of community to Corolla as it allows and encourages young families with children to move to the village.  Lack of a school has long been a barrier to village growth.  Further WEVS is an academically successful school ranking amongst the top schools in its county with students winning both local and national awards.

NOTE that as a public charter school, WEVS teachers’ salaries are paid by North Carolina and public law precludes the county from contributing any funds.  Everything beyond salaries is the responsibility of the school; buildings, maintenance, desks, chairs, computers, etc

The capital campaign to build a new WEVS school started in April 2022.  Support has been fantastic and demonstrates how residents and businesses are vested in the schools success; slightly over $1M has been raised to date.  Our goal is $1.35M for the kind of school the village needs to posture it for the future.

We need just a bit more to wrap our children in the environment they need to succeed.  Please donate to help our village thrive well into the future.

Fabulous public charter school! They reach well beyond the 4 walls of the schoolhouse and room at the chapel to meet and exceed the needs and creative minds of the local population. Just a bit more space is needed to enroll and educate more students than the current capacity~ Give them a vote and you won’t regret it! Here’s to making bigger WEVS!

WEVS has it’s building permit for the new school house ! We need your vote to win some money to go with the great community support – we are trying to avoid taking out a loan to complete construction.
